Camps for Grades 1-6 and 7-9

Summer Camp

Curious minds make happy STEM campers!

Our summer camps help children form friendships and develop a love for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) as early as first grade. The informal camp setting inspires a sense of wonder and curiosity in our campers.

What Campers Learn in Summer Camp

Hands-on experiences encourage campers to explore how and why things happen and discover the answers through experimentation. Campers get to see and do activities they might not normally get a chance to try, which creates a sense of accomplishment and allows them to uncover interests they didn’t know they had!

Summer Camp Schedule

Full and half-day camp options are available for students in grades 1-6.  Full day camps are available for students in grades 7-9. All camp weeks are Monday through Friday with the exception of the first week of summer camp.

    • Full days – 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (Campers bring their own lunch and stay for a supervised lunch period.)
    • Half days – Mornings (8:00 am to 12:00 pm) or Afternoons (1:00 pm to 5:00 pm)

STEM Activity Examples for Grades 1-6

  1. Engineering – Campers use assorted materials to create a
structure that can hold a book for 30 seconds, build a bridge between two chairs that will
hold weights, design something to protect a raw egg when dropped from a height, etc.
  2. Experiments – Experiments range from extracting DNA from fruit to comparing gummy
bears left overnight in plain/salt water to chromatography.
  3. Coding – Campers learn and experiment with programming using Finch robots and Spheros.
  4. Construction Design – Campers make a variety of creations to test and refine, such as rubber band cars, hydraulic arms, mini golf courses, airplanes, automatas, parachutes, catapults, and rockets.
  5. Outdoor activities – Nature walks, stomp
rockets, bubbles, plant and tree identification, etc.

Summer Camps for Grades 7-9

Career & Technical Ed Exploration Camp

June 3-7 – Campers take a test drive of some of the areas of study available at the Career Academy including Building Systems, Robotics, Aviation, Drones, Auto Technology, Agriculture, and more! Career & Technical Ed exploration allows middle school students an opportunity to see new career paths, and try them in a fun, supportive setting. Will not include welding.

Located at BPS Career Academy (1221 College Drive)

Our Human Body

July 8-12 – Don’t let the topic fool you. This will be a fun week of pre-med AND forensics, all related to the human body. Solve a crime by learning how the body leaves clues to detectives. Learn pre-med techniques such as phlebotomy and suturing techniques. Learn how your body reacts to different levels of physical activity. How is your body different when in space? All of this, along with some engineering challenges, creates a week of the human body experience.

Located at: NDGTS Frank Koch Lab (1600 Canary Ave)

Environmental Science

July 22-26 – Do you like being outside? Do you like digging in and figuring things out? This camp is for you! Campers will investigate the connections between the earth’s ecosystems and develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues. Environmental science activities include sampling and testing waters, dating trees by circumference and species, creating a biosphere, land navigation and orienteering, making biodegradable soy plastic, identifying animal tracks, and much more!

Located at: North Dakota’s Gateway to Science (1600 Canary Ave)
